Position overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Database Administrator Specialist to join our IT team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and security of our organization’s databases. This role requires a strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices, along with the ability to troubleshoot and optimize database performance. It is vital that you have good communication skills and a proven ability to work well with both technical and non-technical colleagues and be comfortable working with minimal supervision.

YOUR BACKGROUND

  • 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator or in a similar role
  • Proven experience with database management systems with PostgreSQL (other Databases are appreciated e.g., MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server)
  • Experience in database security, backup, and recovery
  • Strong MySQL expertise (non-negotiable), ideally across both 5.x and 8.x
  • Extensive experience working in a professional DBA capacity (non-negotiable)
  • Proven experience with large databases (tens or hundreds of millions of rows) (non-negotiable)
  • Experience in index and query optimisation (non-negotiable)
  • Exposure to BigQuery or Snowflake (nice-to-have)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. A master’s degree is a plus
  • Exposure to Cloud SQL for MySQL (desired but not non-negotiable)
  • English level - B2

Responsibilities

  • Advise on the optimal database archiving strategy
  • Analyse and recommend reductions to table indexes (index hit rates, query cost analysis, etc.)
  • Assist with porting queries from MySQL to BigQuery
